Town Council

The council meeting will be in the offices of the Collinsville Historical Association at the Community Center tonight.

After the meeting the public will be able to tour CHA's office and museum. The signature quilts from the library will be on display. Many editions of The Collinsville New Era will be available for viewing on the computer, and many items from Collinsville's history are on display in the museum.

The public is invited. Please come!

Football Stadium Dedication



Dedication of the Collinsville High School football stadium in memory of former Collinsville High School Principal Chad Hawkins is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2008.

Don Smith, former faculty member of GSCC and former administrative assistant to U.S. Rep. Tom Bevill, will be a featured speaker.

The Gadsden State band, under the direction of Rip Reagan, will perform at the program, which will begin at 6 p.m.

Collinsville Quilt Walk

The Seventh Annual Collinsville Quilt Walk
is right around the corner!


Friday, Sept. 26th from 12:00 to 5:00
and
Saturday, Sept. 27th from 10:00 to 5:00


This event is for the benefit of the Collinsville Public Library. Come see the beautiful homes and quilts and help us finish building the new library.
This year will be different from any other. There will be a Book Signing by one of Collinsville's own, and the library has been given a wonderful old signature quilt that just may have your grandmother's name on it!

You Go Girls!

V V Victory for three of our Varsity Cheerleaders!

Ashley Cleland, Jennifer Cox and Shelby Godshall
recently tried out for UCA All Star Cheerleader and were accepted to participate as members of the UCA All Star Cheerleader 2009 Varsity Spirit Parade in London, England.

The objective of the trip is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among America's youth.

There will be a car wash at Collinsville High School Saturday, June 21, 2008, to help raise money so that these girls can participate in this event.

Visions and Goals for Collinsville

On Monday, July 16, 2008, the Town Council met with representatives from TARCOG in a Public Workshop on a Comprehensive Plan for Collinsville.

They talked about the town's strengths and weaknesses and what they would like to see happen to the town in the future.

A questionnaire was handed out to each citizen in attendance. These questionnaires will be collected and the results compiled to determine what is important to the citizens and see how their views compare with the Town Council.

Let's See A Movie!


The film "Kilowatt Ours" will be shown at the Collinsville Public Library on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

"Kilowatt Ours" Reveals the Consequences of Our Coal Powered Economy.

The film opens with Vice President Dick Cheney's energy policy speech in which Cheney makes the claim that America needs nearly 1900 new power plants in the next 20years to meet projected electricity demands.

From here, filmmaker Jeff Barrie takes viewers on a journey from the coal mines of West Virginia to the solar panel fields of Florida, as he discovers solutions to America's energy related problems. Come and collect energy saving tips, including how you can save up to $600 a year on your energy bill!

Collinsville physician Dr. Frannie Coe will be speaking on "Living Green".

New Sidewalks Are Coming!


After three and a half years of waiting, waiting, waiting! The paperwork has finally been signed, returned to us and construction will begin on our Streetscapes.

Preparations for construction will begin on April 30th. New sidewalks and new streetlamps will start appearing as part of the Main Street revitalization project.

Watch for the new, exciting look of Historic Downtown Collinsville!

Collinsville Goes Green!

Did you know that our town now has recycling bins out by Town Hall?

At this time we are recycling newspaper, cardboard and paper. In addition to that, the Library has started a Go Green Project.

Check with the library for more information on this project and how it will benefit our library.
