Coach L. D. Dobbins


Collinsville High School Roast Coach Dobbins





Collinsville High School recently held a roast for longtime basketball L.D. Dobbins. The event was held in the lunchroom and included a variety of speakers. Speakers included former players, assistant coaches, and opponent coaches.
Coach Dobbins coached at Collinsville for 31 years and won the school's only basketball state championship in 1975. He is a member of the county and AHSAA Hall of Fame.




The M.C. was Jackie Myers who was a long-time assistant of Coach Dobibins. Speakers included Panther Principal Donnie Jones, current Glencoe Girl's Coach John Blackman, current Panther Head Basketball Coach John Tidmore, Longtime Plainview Coach Mitchell, longtime Collinsville Assistant Jackie Myers, former Crossville's Coach Colvin, former Sylvania Coach Graham and several former players. Event organizer and Collinsville Head Football Coach Alan Beckett said, "We are trying to connect the past with the present. I wanted to honor a legend of our school and let our young people realize what history we have."

Collinsville Senior Named Young Hero

The Alabama Public Television Young Heroes Awards recognizes five Alabama high school students each year based on courage, determination, volunteerism, academic excellence and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Pablo Zuniga was chosen from a pool of about 200 nominees to receive the award.The program recognizes Alabama high school students who are active in the community, maintain good grades and who have overcome adversity during their lifetime. He was nominated by his guidance counselor at the DeKalb County Technology Center, Hazel Haynes, who described him as an artist, a caretaker, an industrious worker and friend to others.

CHA Annual Meeting

The Collinsville Historical Association's Annual Meeting
will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2:30 P.M.
at the Collinsville Community Center.

Scheduled to speak are Senator Lowell Baron, Brant Craig and John Baker.

The Sand Rock FFA String Band will perform and refreshments will be served.

CHA's museum and offices will be open for everyone to see.

Come see what has been done and is being done to preserve
Collinsville's history, and hear about some exciting projects CHA will be
working on in the very near future!
